Taking public transit again and reflecting on the past year…

It’s been a long hard year. Today the first snow-fall… And a long time since I blogged. With the snow, I’m taking the TTC again — Toronto public transit… too scared to ride my moped if the roads might be slippery.

And today they’re finishing up work with our doors. We’re getting a new front door — looks so beautiful now. And replacing a window in our bedroom with a sliding door to the backyard — not an easy job, as they needed to cut through a double-brick wall. But they did a great job of it. And all the bricks, except for maybe one, were cut so smoothly. The house definitely looks and feels so very much better now.

I’m surprised, after a whole year, I still remember how to do my blogging workflow I developed last winter… using my MacBook, MarsEdit and BBEdit. Writing my blog while taking the subway is really a great way to spend the time. It’s too time-consuming to try to design my site, or edit/organize my photos on the train — but writing is a very natural and easy thing to do here.

Let’s see… over the past year, what did I do? For the house, back in February we finished replacing our windows. We got a new metal roof in the summer. And now, complete almost the last of our projects with the new front door and the sliding door. Next year will be the last project — to build a deck. I want to try building it myself — but Crystal, my wife, doesn’t trust me… she wants to hire someone.

I think my top choice is a cedar deck — but I worry about the cost. We don’t need a very big deck and not a complicated design… just maybe 20×10 feet, rectangular…

I wonder, how to write my blog entries? I like the style of a diary, where I just say everything that’s on my mind at this moment.

Over the past year I learned a lot too. I made new friends on twitter and plurk. Really I love plurk — an amazing fun and interactive web interface. It takes a while to figure out what it really is. Twitter I think started this micro-blogging thing.

Oops… my stop is next… need to get ready to get off now…

Ok… on the 504 streetcar now… the last leg of my journey to work. I like commutes like this, where I didn’t have to wait too long for the bus, subway train, and streetcar.

Ahhh, I’m also excited for my GPS should arrive today!! I think it will be cool if I can somehow hook GPS driven maps to my blog — so you can see where I am and when I am at the various places on my journey each day.

And that’s a big part of what NudeRiver is about — sharing the journey of life with each other. Plurk and Twitter do a great job of that too. Life is a journey, a road. And it’s not important where we go, but the road we take to get there is so very important.

I wonder if I will always have something interesting to say. When I read other blogs, some parts are a bit boring — when talking about things. But, when they talk about something from the heart, that’s when it really gets interesting. People are sometimes a bit … the most personal stuff they make private… and I can understand why. But that is also the most heart-felt entries.

Myself too, when writing — if I’m writing an informative blog entry, I feel it’s just … boring… boring to write and it must be boring to read too.

PLEASE TELL ME… if my blog entries ever are boring.

With people I follow on plurk or twitter, I feel like I know them from what they say. Yet, I don’t know if they feel the same. They have dozens and some hundreds of followers. So, sometimes I feel a bit shy to talk like I would talk to a good, close friend.

Age can also be a barrier. I hope people don’t think I’m some dirty old man. For, I’m 46 years old and many of the people I follow on plurk are young girls… by young, I mean many around 18-26. But, I don’t think of age… I follow people because something about them I find attractive and interesting. People talking more from the heart, more about love, maybe more unsure of their lives and full of life and promise… maybe a bit scared too.

Myself, I always try to keep the child inside me alive — to try to see the world through the innocent eyes of a child.

xoxo Love Ron
